I am an Assistant Professor of Higher Education Administration at the University of Alabama. My research focuses on improving equity in the policies, programs, and practices related to the academic mission of higher education, with a focus on faculty careers, teaching practices, and the impact of students’ academic experiences on their outcomes. I also serve as Associate Editor of Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning.
I earned my PhD from the Higher Education and Student Affairs program at the University of Iowa, where I worked in the Center for Research on Undergraduate Education. I am also an affiliate of the Pullias Center for Higher Education at the University of Southern California. I also have a backround in rhetoric, composition, and creative writing; I spent more than a decade as a non-tenure track faculty member at the University of Miami, teaching undergraduate writing courses, working in the Writing Center, and serving in various leadership roles.
